Some have asked why not use those electric or gas powered shears, wouldn’t it be faster and cheaper? The answer is it is the wrong way to prune because it will destroy the health of the plantings and the plantings will look clipped and unnatural. Pruning must be done in a way that cuts out the dead growth, cuts out the sucker growth, and yet shapes the planting so that it is attractive and natural looking. When they use hedge clippers to “buzz” cut a shrub, hedge or planting they are only cutting at one level. When Lueders prunes they go into the plant from the base to the top of the plant and selectively hand snips the material that should be discarded.
